Volunteer work day: bridge fix

  • 15 Jun 2019
  • 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

One of the bridges at Personius needs to be dismantled, and we need your help!

The plan: dismantle the bridge, saving as many of the planks from the deck and the railings as possible, and cutting the big support beams (rotten, hence the need to take the bridge apart) into chunks to haul away.

The location: Personius Woods, on West Hill Rd. Parking is tight so park with care in the parking lot, or along Lew Storch Rd. where there is some room to park along the edge of the road. Carpooling encouraged! The bridge is at the corner of the property adjacent to Lew Storch Rd. The bridge crosses a creek, which could be up to ankle deep, so wear shoes or workboots that you don't mind getting wet.

If there is enough material to rebuild a shorter straight bridge across a narrower section of the creek upstream, we'll do that too!

Volunteers should bring any tools that they are comfortable using (crowbars, hammers with claws especially useful) and dress expecting to be in the creek for at least part of the project. Volunteers should be either adults or handy teens with adult supervision - this is not an appropriate project for young kids.

Tanglewood will bring over work gloves and as many tools as we have.

Saturday June 15th from 10am-12pm.
